Esso’s Southampton to London Pipeline Project – project update July 2021

The majority of the 97km replacement pipeline will be installed in 2022 and 2023. In 2021 we are installing pipe in Chobham Common and Bourley & Long Valley. We are also setting up a logistics hub and a few construction compounds.

The most up to date timelines for installation can be viewed on our website. The timetable gives an indication, by month, of when we expect to be working in each area. We are still progressing some construction details so the timeline may be subject to some change.

Please see a summary of activities planned for this year below:

  • Pre-installation works in Chobham Common, such as creating access, strimming, setting up compounds and fencing the working area will start from the 23rd August. From October 2021 we will be starting works for three sections of trenchless installation. Find out more here.

  • Pre-installation works to set up the logistics hub in Hartland Park, Fleet, start in September 2021.

  • Pre-installation works at our Alton Terminal, to set up a construction compound, will start in August 2021

  • Pre-installation works for the trenchless sections within Bourley & Long Valley, will start in October 2021. This will include creating access, strimming, setting up compounds and fencing the working area. Seasonal ecological mitigation works across the length of the project are needed throughout our construction period.
